Rain gauge

Rain gauge data are a valuable a basis for simulation tasks in water management, however, they need to be verified and reliable.

Frequent problems that occur are missing rainfall, blockage und time shift. Problems that influence the correct recording of the rainfall quantity are: wrongly adjusted heating, temporarily ocurred shadowing, wind effects during snow, different operators or different capturing and recording systems of different rain gauge types.

hydro & meteo performs rain gauge analysis based on the following basic principles:

  • data check and gap filling with the help of neighboring stations

  • continuous control through the comparison with radar data to determine suspicious rainfall quantities.

  • creation and examination of continuous time series using daily values and the time series of nearby stations.

  • calculation and display of areal rainfalls.

  • development of the specialized software NIKLAS for automated plausibility check of rainfall and climate station data.
